پیش فرض Have and Have got

The differences between 'have' and 'have got' is almost troublesome for beginners. I try to explain so you understand the difference between the two. When you finish please try the mini quiz to check your understanding.

We use 'have' and 'have got' to show possession.

    Example:

    John has a bicycle.
John has got a new cellphone.

1.When we're focusing on 'action' only 'have' is used:

I have breakfast. (NOT I have got breakfast.)

    2. We use DO to form the question:

Do you have a cellphone? (NOT Have you a cellphone?)

    3. We use 'Have' and 'Have got' in present simple, for past or future we use 'Have'

She had a copy of that book.

    4. We cannot use contracted form for 'have' in affirmative sentences, for 'Have got' we can.

I have a nice house. (NOT I've a nice house.)
I have got a nice house. (OR I've got a nice house.)

Thanks for the comprehensive answer. Sorry it seems I had misunderstood the question as the answer was so clear to me. Anyway I put my previous answer for reference.

I think you want to know what the meaning of "I've got to" is, because meaning of I've is clear. I've is the contracted form for "I have" and is mostly used with the past participle of the verb, e. g. I've worked in that company since 2000.

"I've got to" means "I have to" ,e. g. "I've got to go" or "I've gotta go" means "I have to leave". As it is clear this phrase is considered slang.
